Monday in Weybridge

Today Jenni and I stayed in Weybridge while Katie went to work.

We did some laundry, which with the washers here it takes 2 hours to wash a load, then air drying. People do not use laundry mats here...there aren't any.

It was another beautiful day sunshining with a few clouds. The temperature continues to be cool, it hasn't gotten above 68 yet.

We walked to Wey River and saw the bridge for which the Weybridge is named. It is really pretty down by the river. Some people who live on Wey River have boats in the water tied at their homes. It would be a great picnic spot.

Jenni and I picked up some chicken and peas for supper.

We saw a Smart Car. You can see by the picture how small they are. I had to lift my hands up pretty far for them to be seen, or they would have looked longer. I see a lot of Fords, mostly Fiesta and Focus.

Hampton Court

Sunday, July 20

Today we went by train from Weybridge to Hampton Court. Hampton Court is where the Palace of King Henry the 8th is. It was amazing and overwhelming to walk through the castle and see and hear of the lives of English royalty about which I had studied. The artwork is phenominal. Melinda you will enjoy a couple of pics of the artwork. I could not believe tapestries of the 1600s are still hanging.

We also spent time in the royal gardens. There were thousands and thousands of flowers. I was intrigued by the world famous maze that is there. It was great fun to find our way to the center and out again.

We had lunch in the cafe there. It was very good, but too much to eat in one sitting, and they do not have to go boxes here. We split a piece of beetroot cake. I think the food thing I miss the most is ice in my water.

We are all pretty tired at this point. Jenni was just pointing out that it is 5:52 here Katie just fixed dinner, and Derek is just not finishing his sermon. I am having a bit of trouble sleeping. I think I'm still trying to sleep by central time.

Speaking of time. We are far enough north that the sun is up most of the time, 4:30 a.m. till 10:00 pm. It is nice to have heavy curtains to help block out the light. Tomorrow Jenni and I are staying in Weybridge checking out the local color.

We took London by storm.

This morning we took the train into London. It was a very calm ride after walking 20 minutes to the station. The weather was great.

We saw Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, St. James Park, and Buckingham Palace.

Carol, you were right Wesminster Abby was amazing! I was enthralled by all the artwork, carvings, sculpture and etc. It has been here since AD 960. Amazing how it could stand and still be functional. I cannot fathom how some of the intricate artwork was done, no modern tools and what a sacrifice to finance it. The Abbey has to be seen to truely appreciate, it is so awesome.

Big Ben is sooooo tall. Actually Big Ben is the bell inside the tower; we all just call the whole thing Big Ben. A picture has to be taken a block away, nearly, to get the whole thing.

We walked over to Buckingham Palace. The muscles in my hips were howling. [Wesley, I know that feeling you get in your hips now.] We could not go into the palace as the Queen is there. The gates are impressive artwork, and statues surround. The statues sometimes have spike things coming out of them to keep the pigeons off. Speaking of pigeons, they would land at your feet and beg for food practically.

We rode in a cab home from the train station, rest assured it was a Ford. It was a Ford Galaxy, but nothing like the old Ford Galaxy of the 60's.

Katie fixed Bread Crumb Chicken, fresh green beans, jacket potatoes, and a Coco Chocolaterie dessert. My blood sugar will not get high because we will walk it down.

We have arrived!

Whew! Jenni and I arrived here in London a bit ahead of schedule due to a great tail wind. It is very quaint. The houses are close together; Katie had said that real estate was a premium. Lots of brick homes, and flower gardens.

Jenni has accused me of leaving a trail of crumbs to find my way home as I have lost a pillow and an old watch. Those security checkpoints have taken a toll on me..Ha!

It sprinkled for a few minutes, and it is quite cool. I have on a jacket in the house....I am sure that most of you cannot believe that I am cold!

We did not sleep on the flight over which means 3 nights with almost no sleep for me and I feeling quite wiped out. We are going to stroll down to a local market to pick up some groceries is a bit.

The pics are of the clouds from above, yes my head was in the clouds. The plane of corn I found to be amusing since the area is looking for more renewable sources of fuel. The last pic was taken at 2:00am as the dawn was breaking.

We are all three well and trust you are also.

Hello, Hello, Hello



I am both excited and nervous about my upcoming trip to UK to see Katie. My plan is for this to be a good venue for friends and family to view Jenni and I as we visit Katie and leave our mark on the United Kingdom.



We will arrive 12:00 noon July 18th after leaving here Thursday, July 17. Hopefully we will be able to rest on the flight and be ready to begin our adventures with Katie later in the day. We may be feeling like Alice as she fell into the rabbit's hole [in Alice in Wonderland].
